Get FWI

The name "Get FWI" is a play on words which illustrates the aim and the intended impact of this cultural inter-Caribbean organization.

 

This Franco-English play on words is displayed as follows :

- It happens to be the French pronunciation of the English phrase "GET FREE"

- The literal meaning of "Get FWI" in English is "Get French West Indies".

 

However, from what should the French West Indies be freed? Well, from the pejorative idea that the neighbouring islands maintain with regard to the islands of the French West Indies.

 

Moreover, our political context as well as our official language have continually widening the gap between us and the rest of the Caribbean over the years.

 

Regarding the rest of the West-Indies, here is an invitation to learn more about us, but differently ; an invitation for us, Caribbean people, to realize that we do have a lot in common and can get along together.
